South Caernarvonshire Yacht Club were hosts to a somewhat reduced fleet for the 2023 Welsh open but the racing was no less intense.
In a week that saw heavy weather devastate the racing schedule of many of the UK events, the Welsh Squib fleet completed their 12-race schedule unmolested, albeit with generally strong winds the norm. There was a feisty three-way battle all week between Nick Whipp in Cariad Bach, Harvey Wordern in Bacchante VIII and Richard Robinson in Squib 23, Grayling. At the mid-week stage they were tied on points.
Slightly less onerous conditions for the final two days saw Richard Robinson ease Grayling into a clear points lead with Cariad Bach comfortably second overall despite a late dash from Baccante with a 2, 1 on the final day. Dave Best and Glen Pritchard sailed Mayhem consistently and well to take a well-earned 4th slot ahead of the perennial Moonstone (Malcolm Blackburn)
