Rutland Sailing Club again played host to the National Squib fleet for the now-traditional UK season closer over the weekend of October 4th & 5th.
The forecast of severe storm conditions deterred several entrants from Ireland, Scotland and elsewhere from travelling but despite this a quality fleet of die-hard Squibbers persevered, with thirteeen boats eventually launching for the event, including boats based as far afield as Angelsey, Burnham, Lowestoft and the river Dart.
in far-from-ideal conditions the Race Committee did brilliantly to complete a five-race series.
Counting four ‘bullets’ and discarding a 2nd, Tom Jeffcoate & Mark Hogan in Ric’o’Shea gave a masterclass in boat handling and boatspeed to dominate the leaderboard. They were followed by Lady Penelope (Malcy Hutchings and Andrew Carley) and their fellow Burnham team of Ray Apthorp & Ian Simmons sailing Chequemate.
The Burnham team of Lady Penelope, Chequemate and Spoof ( Micky Wright & Alex Porteous) easily took the team trophy while adding the Squib Inland Champonships to their 2025 trophy haul made team Ric’oShea the deserved winners the 2025 National Squib Travellers Trophy.

Ric’o’Shea‘s record-breaking 2025 prize haul:
