At least eight Squib fleets have seen the obvious benefits of having a fleet-owned boat or boats that can be made available for Squib test sails, to hire for racing/relaxation or for loan to worthwhile causes, such as youth participation in fleet activity.
These fleets are :
Burnham on Crouch Medway Yacht Club
Howth Yacht Club Royal Forth Yacht Club
Kinsale Yacht Club South Caernarvonshire Yacht Club
Lough Derg Yacht Club Weymouth Sailing Club
It is well-known that each entrant in the 2018 UK Nationals in Cowes received a free spinnaker. This helped to encourage the impressive 100-boat entry list. The spinnakers were generously co-sponsored by AQL who paid for the materials, and Batt Sails who manufactured them for free. As part of this project a number of spare sails were made and set aside as contingency against breakages.
Four brand new spare sails remain and The NSOA Comittee decided that the best home for these would be some of the fleet- owned boats being maintained to support fleet activity. Consequently, at the recent Committee meeting a ‘prize-draw’ was arranged, overseen by the class secretariat, to decide which of these fleets would receive this supporting gift. Howth Yacht club was not in the draw as their Club Squib had previously received a sail.
We are pleased to announce that the lucky winning fleets are KINSALE YC, SOUTH CAERNARVONSHIRE YC, ROYAL FORTH YC, LOUGH DERG YC and wish them every success with their fleet projects.
